Embroidery showing the cell division of an embryo of the northern white rhinoceros produced in the laboratory. Currently, there are only two females of this species left. Oocytes from these specimens were fertilized in vitro with the stored semen of a deceased male animal. The embryos are now stored in liquid nitrogen for transfer to a surrogate mother in the future.
