solstice fern, 2012
Performance series presented in selected ICA stores in Lapland/Sweden
Performance series realized in Norrbotten/Sweden (arctic circle) in December 2012. 10 ferns were provided with water, fertilizer and a plant light in the fruit and vegetable section of selected ICA stores. The symbolism of the performance is related to the data collection (The Golden Bough/1890) of the Scottish anthropologist Sir James Frazer (1854-1941) who described the different rituals and traditions performed during midsummer and winter solstice in selected regions of Europe. The rituals are all linked in one or the other way to FERN and are all applied to grow rich.
